Transformers

I got to see Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Tuesday night with my beautiful wife. It was awesome. It was a pretty long movie, but I loved it. I am definitely going to need to watch it a few more times before I can really understand the fight scenes. They do such a good job of making the robot’s millions of pieces that it becomes difficult to see who is who during a real time fight scene. They left it wide open for a third movie too. During the previews they showed a preview for a new movie called 2012. I have heard all kinds of things regarding the year 2012 and it’ll be fun to see how far Hollywood runs with it. http://whowillsurvive2012.com/

Cartoons to Movies - SCORE!

For those of you unaware, I love cartoons. I grew up watching Transformers, He-man, Thundercats, and a little G.I. Joe. I never really stopped getting into new cartoons. From Fairly Odd Parents to Shirt Tails, Sponge Bob to the Snorks, Smurfs to Gummi Bears, Duck Tales and Rescue Rangers. About 9 months ago or so I started watching Avatar: The Last Airbender. Thanks to my DVR I was able to watch the whole series. It’s about four nations, the earth, air, water, and fire nations. Certain people in these nations can “bend” the element of their nation. One person, called the Avatar, has the ability to bend all four. It’s good. Well, yesterday my sister was asking me what I’ve been watching on Netflix, and I told her that we have Over the Hedge and The Happening. She told me that The Happening was alright, but M. Night Shamalamalama has “a new movie coming out about a boy who can push air or something”. So back and forth we chatted till she sent me this http://www.thelastairbendermovie.com/. I was freaking out a little bit.

Catch-All

We are in the process of cleaning out our office so that little man the sequel has a place of his very own. Now we are in a little bit of trouble because it was our "catch-all" room. You know that one place in the house that you throw everything when company shows up. Now that our new office is the first thing you see when you enter our house we are in need of a new "catch-all" space, because lets be honest, everyone needs a catch all. OK, maybe not Jeanie V. :). Well, we're about to go for a walk. Later.

Mmyum... Mmyum... Mmyum

Last week was our Vacation Bible School, and it was pretty amazing. Laura and I were a little concerned about how our son would take the long hours in the nursery while we volunteered. He did great. The last three days we would sneak down and get him a little early so he could be in the gym with us when we would all gather together and sing songs. He got a kick out of seeing all the kiddos dancing together and doing to motions. As a reward for him (and me), we had ice cream each night. Right now, anytime he sees something that looks really good he starts saying “mmyum…mmyum…mmyum…” So when he would see me walk to the fridge after the first night he would start up with the “mmyum…mmyum” Well, now he’s taking it out of the house. Yesterday at the grocery store Laura got a craving for cake (cravings are ok, she’s pregnant). While she was looking for a piece of cake, little man saw all the goodies and wanted everyone to know it, “mmyum… mmyum” A woman behind the counter said “May that baby have a C-O-O-K-I-E?” Laura of course said “yes.” I imagine this is not going to be the last time his cuteness affords him a cookie.

Searching the You Tube

I went looking for a video today on www.youtube.com . I wanted to see if they had any fake workout videos done by the guys who make the movies like Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon or Shaolin Soccer www.youtube.com/watch?v=_49e0sEjNeM. They always have these ridiculous abilities, and I just had this idea that watching them do a workout video that is humanly impossible would be hilarious. I was unsuccessful, so if you know of some please let me know.

On a side note I was very happy to see that they have full episodes of Voltron! www.youtube.com/show/voltron?feature=spotlight

Crazy week

Ok, so this has been a pretty crazy week. We’ve lost three legends. Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson have all made an incredible impact on our culture, and they will be deeply missed. From Star Search to American Idol, Johnny Carson to Conan O’Brien, Charlie’s Angels to Alias, and Thriller by MJ to Thriller by the Filipino Prison gang http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pdz38TIwqIQ , the effect they had is vast, and one of a kind. Death, whether expected, anticipated or a complete shock has a tendency of occurring to1 out of 1 people. These flesh suits do not last forever. Thankfully we are not merely flesh. We are all made of body and soul. One will die and one does not. The flesh is like the hour glass. The time you get to choose to live for the one who created you or to exist for yourself. To know that Jesus is the Son of God, died and rose again to be Savior to all and to you, -or to not believe. You get that choice. Just remember, like gravity, you can choose not to believe in it, but that doesn’t exempt you from the consequences of not believing in it.

In a follow up to yesterday’s blog about Hollywood making movies about old cartoons. What about the games? We’ve seen Super Mario Brothers, Resident Evil, and Doom make it (well, sort of). But what about Sim City, Dig Dug, and Duck Hunt? Ok it may be difficult to stretch anyone of those into even an hour long feature film, but I know they could make a spin off of “Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?.” Think about it, she can steal the Sphinx, Big Ben, or maybe the new Dallas Cowboy Stadium. The hero will catch her henchmen and everything. There’s at least a trilogy somewhere in there. And don’t get me started on “Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego?”. Yeah, I’m pretty sure this is going to bigger than Star Wars. I gotta invest in a red hat company. Come on Hollywood, Where is Carmen Sandiego?

Transformers 2 : Revenge of the Fallen

The clock is ticking. Transformers 2 : Revenge of the Fallen is now in theaters, and my current track record for seeing movies while they are in the theater is not very good. I believe the last two movies I saw in the theater were The Chronicles of Narnia : Prince Caspian and Gran Torino(a friend’s birthday choice), both of which are now out on DVD. I saw the first Transformers movie three times in the theater. I’ll be happy to see this one once. They have done a great job of bringing one of my favorite cartoons to life. There are a few others that I’m waiting for Hollywood to bring to the big screen. The day I see Voltron, Thundercats, and a better version of He-man in movie theaters will be a great day; a great day indeed.

Mistaken

Have you ever heard the song “Mistaken” by Warren Barfield; it’s all about being mistaken for Jesus. Well because I have long brown hair, a beard and blue eyes, I get to resemble the way western culture has portrayed Jesus. At Vacation Bible School last night several people said, “Wow, you look like Jesus.” This morning as I was getting ready that song came into my head, and I was thinking regardless of what I look like on the outside, if people could see into my heart and hear what I really think sometimes, who would I be mistaken for? Who would you be mistaken for?

Vacation Bible School - Day 1

Today marks the start of Vacation Bible School for our church. The theme is to go back to the time of Jesus, more specifically the time right before his arrival in Jerusalem. All the volunteers will be dressed in robes and tunics, and thanks to my sister I’m pretty sure mine will be one of the best. I’ve grown a beard and my hair is past my shoulders. I’m as ready as I’ll ever be. The kids are all divided in to the 12 tribes of Israel and will each receive their own vest. It’s a pretty neat set up. Laura and I will be working as shop keepers. She’s in the jewelry shop and I’m a metal worker. The kids will get to visit all the different shops and participate in each activity they provide. I think it’s going to be great; however it will be even better if I don’t have any really smart kids. See my activity is a little, well, dark considering the circumstances. I’m supposed to have the kids make crosses with nails and wire. Very cool, I remember making them at church camp myself. However, in our flashback in time, Jesus is supposed to show up the last day of VBS, chronologically before He dies on the cross. So basically I am a metal worker who is enthralled by the times’ death sentence. I think I’m going to have to find a way to make the Star of David or something. Other than that I’m really looking forward to it.

Brown Sugar

I cooked about 100 chocolate chip cookies tonight. I am so full of cookie dough it hurts. While I was mixing the ingredients my son started a good old tired cry. Which, being the genius that I am, I knew exactly how to fix. I pinched off a little chunk of brown sugar, and no more fuss. I had an epiphany. It is impossible to dislike brown sugar! Sure you can have too much, and need to wait a while before finishing a bag of it. But think of the possibilities! No more fussing babies, increased treadmill sales, world peace. Somebody needs to get this stuff in the right hands. It's good medicine.

Grand Canyon - R2R

On a recent trip to Arizona, I got a chance to visit the Grand Canyon. It is truly breathtaking, almost surreal. I had seen hundreds of pictures but nothing could have prepared me for the reality of its' vastness.
Back at our hotel in Flagstaff (Picazzos! Little pricey, but great pizza in Flagstaff http://www.picazzos.com) we shared an elevator with a couple who had just got back from a rim to rim hike. It took them 5 days to hike from one side to the other and back. It really got in my head. I cannot run a mile without heaving a lung and yet something in me says, with enough training, I could do a rim to rim. There's a lot I have to learn, but I'm pretty sure I know a few guys who would be willing to give it a shot. I've got a lot of searching to do, and would love to hear more from anyone who has done or is planning to do a similar trek. A good map would be a great start.

For those unwilling to relent

For those, who have been taunted and scorned at your quest for the end of the endless. You’re told day after day by your vitamin D enriched friends that you should give up. But do you? No. Did Luke stop after destroying one Death Star? Of course not, because one’s just not good enough. You my friend are the loyal. With empty cans of red bull and yoo-hoo adorning your room you press on in search of the new and shiny. Today is a good day. By strapping in my mind to this blogogalaxy, your drive for knowledge and the obscure just got a little easier. Welcome to Incurious Thought.
